Knowledge Building and Assisting the Hospitals with Research
We support the nutritional fellowship program of the TATA Memorial Hospital where participants are trained by top local and international oncologists and experts in the field of nutrition about the science of nutrition for paediatric cancer patients.
Our nutritionists also undertake nutrition related research projects with TATA Memorial Hospital and AIIMS to understand the impact of various nutritional interventions.
Caregiver Education Program
Once a month, group counselling workshops or parent support group meets (PSG Meet) are conducted at the hospitals to educate caregivers about nutrition, hygiene and also about providing the best kind of nutrition available in their limited means. Sessions are made interesting by using various methods to impart knowledge like flipcharts, power point presentations etc.
To reduce treatment abandonment by families, Cuddles Foundation provides a family of 3 with Ration supplies for one month. This also incentivises the families to continue the treatment even if the patient is a girl child.
In Patient Meal Supplementation
Often the inpatient meals at the hospitals are inadequate to meet the nutritional requirements of the kids. We supplement the meals with the Eggs, Butter Chiplets, Lassi etc. to ensure that the kids nutritional needs are being met.
Mid Day Meals to OPD Patients
Fresh, nutritionally balanced, calorie appropriate hot meals are provided to every kid visiting the hospital OPD for treatment.
Children sometimes spend more than 8 hours at the OPD while waiting their turn for the chemotherapy treatment.
The meals have been specifically designed for children afflicted with cancer by our nutritionists.
Nutritional Supplementation with OTC Products
The nutritionists prescribe various OTC products to the patients as per their individual requirements.
Some examples of such products are Pediasure, Peptamen Junior, Threptin biscuits etc.
These are then provided to the children free of cost by the nutritionists during their counselling and diet planning session at the hospital.
Placement of Nutritionists
We provide the hospital with nutritionists who :
a)Individually assess the nutritional status of each child
b)Plan nutritional intervention as per the requirements
c)Counsel caregivers with respect to providing nutritional care for their children
This also serves to address the problem of parent illiteracy with regards to child care and nutrition of cancer afflicted children.
Wadia Hospital Meal Program
We started this programme in July 2014 for OPD patients at the Wadia Hospital. These children come in at 7 in the morning, and leave only at 6 in the evening. They come from families with limited means, who would have a hard time managing the time and expense of providing more than a small homemade snack or meal, which is nowhere near enough what the child needs for the whole day.
To avoid the risk of resorting to cheap junk food, we plan to provide 1 healthy snack and 1 wholesome meal to each child. We are looking to support 100 children a day this way at the hospital. Donors can sponsor children for 3, 6, 9 months or more, as convenient.
Our main area of work is providing nutritional supplements. We make sure these kids who come in for treatment get the nutritious supplements they need to ensure that they are strong enough for the chemotherapy procedure etc. StrEGGnth! Eggs are one of natures super foods, and a great way to help children get the strength they need to withstand chemo and fight cancer. The egg project aims to make the best use of this wonder nutrient.
We are shortly going to announce Fellowships with the TATA Memorial Hospital to further aid with research around nutrition. Monthly workshops at TATA Memorial Hospital for the caregivers in collaboration with the Impacct Foundation, educating them about the importance of nutrition.
We hold regular workshops on nutrition for the caregivers, in collaboration with the TATA Memorial Hospital and IMPACT foundation.
Capacity Building Program
We also help in capacity building at hospitals by providing- Nutritionists Social workers Researchers for conducting specialized research on the impact of nutrition on cancer treatment outcomes
Under the Chakys Food for all program, we provide ration to families at multiple hospitals to help them prepare and feed nutritious meals to their children.Ration is the basic food requirement of every human for survival which is nutritious. It is the simplest of cereals and pulses, sugar, oil and required raw ingredients to cook a meal.We realized that providing supplementation in the hospitals is insufficient and there is a dire need to help provide children with food for when they are at home. Cuddles has therefore launched the Chaky's Food for all program to provide a helping hand to these parents and enable them to properly care for their child, helping the parents to avoid opting for abandonment of treatment .
You can donate the following : A) Ration Bundles
Rs 1300/ pack
Tur Dal (Redgram dal)
Channa (Bengal gram)
Matki (moth beans)

B) Milk powder packets Milk is a high quality first class vegetarian source of protein and an important source of calcium which every child should consume for better immunity, growth and development.
